     "My First Pointe Shoes" 2010-06-25
    By Capt. MS
These were my first pointe shoes and I absolutely hated them. They had an extremely hard shank, the box was rounded and restrictive and bulky. They had a great demi, but terrible look and feel on pointe. I would not recomend these as a first shoe because it's likely that the dancer's feet are not strong yet, and even though it's neccesary to have a supportive box and shank, you need to be able to go over the box and have a more pliable shank.

"Great, but ALWAYS be fitted by a professional first" 2010-05-10
By J. Kennel (Terre Haute, IN USA)
My daughter wore these and loved them until her feet got too big and she had to switch to others. We suggest always being professionally fitted for pointe shoes at least the first time, and then if/when you need to change brands.

The ribbons and elastics sold on Amazon are pretty good prices too, especially the hard-to-find 3/4" or 1" wide. If you are beginners and are sewing the elastics and ribbons on, you may possibly cut them too short or otherwise wreck them; that's why I know the prices on here are very good. i.e. Never pay $10 shipping for two tiny items that weigh so little. If you have a store closeby you're set; if you have to travel 50+ miles to find quality pointe and dance accessories, buy them on here and save a bundle.

     "Great for ADULT beginners!!!!!!!" 2010-04-03
By Strawberry (St. Croix, Virgin Islands)
I began pointe work at age 32!!!!!

This shoe is amazing!!!! This was the only shoe that didn't hurt excessively (since most shoes hurt until they soften) and stretched out nicely to my feet. very strong shoe!!!!! Nice platform for turning and support. I place MOLESKIN from kmart's footcare section on my platforms so the satin doesn't fray. The shank is not soft at all, but not too hard. Just right in the middle. So your feet look nicely pointed. It's sooo supportive that you feel confident you won't buckle your ankles with releve's, etc. I don't even need elastics, I just wear ribbons and they don't slip off. This shoe is well priced for an adult just trying out pointe work to see if they would like to continue pointe training. It is VERY durable for the price!!!!! I wore this shoe for a year and 2 months before I began feeling the floor with my toes. The platform and box stayed completely hard and I didn't realize I needed a new shoe. I realized I needed a new shoe when I tried on my back up pair and my toes weren't feeling the floor. My box stayed hard because I was deligent about air drying them after EACH class!!! This shoe is not noisy either.

    Shoe History:

I began with the russian pointe entrada size 43 X,soft shank $75. What a waste. The shank broke on the left shoe within 2 wks and I realized it because I began ankle began buckling and rolling over my left toes in releve'. Also the shanks came loose from the sole of both shoes. I sent it back to russian pointe and they said they found no defects and would not send me a new pair or a refund. CRAP!!!

I have a low profile on top of my feet which the Grishko 2007 is advertised for, but it made my big toes tingle because the shoe's profile was too low.

    Dance History:

I don't have a strong childhood ballet history: began dancing at age 11 until age 17, then i stopped dancing until age 27. I took jazz/modern classes on/off from age 27-31. Then I took ballet 1-2 times/wk at age 31, then began pointe at 32.

Feet type: street shoe size 10-11 narrow. (i'm 5' 7 1/2" tall, wt: 123 Lbs.)

I have very long narrow feet, very long tapered toes. my 2nd toe is longer than my 1st. I have a low arch and low profile from floor to top of my toes. I have very narrow heels and ankles.

When I began poine work, I wore an 11 narrow street shoe. I ordered a size 8 A in the aspiration but I think I may need an 8.5 A. Now that I've been en pointe for 1 yr, I now wear a 10 street shoe. Pointe shoes compresses the bones it seems.

    Shoe padding:

I use BUNHEADS BIG TIP jelly toe covers and cut them to 1/3 the size. I use 1 tip to cover my 2nd/3rd toe on each foot, and I tape the peice that I cut off of the BIG TIP on top of my big toe to make up the length to meet my 2nd toe for better toe alignment. I also use PROFOOT VITA-GEL TOE SPACERS from kmart's footcare section since I have a big gap between my big toe and 2nd toe. This minimizes my big toe's metatarsal movement which would reduce bunion development. I also use kmart's PROFOOT VITA-GEL CORN WRAPS for my Right pinky which can get blistered from the rubbing. The corn wrap stays in place a lot better than the waterproof tape I've tried and give jelly cushioning. I use the ORIGINAL OUCH POUCH toe pads. These are great!!!! I wash them once a week so they smell great!! they take up a lot less room and the don't make my toes fall asleep and tingle with pain like the LEO gel pads. Those are way tooo thick. I would have to buy a wider shoe I guess.

     "Alright but not great" 2009-01-04

These shoes are very hard to break in and it takes a long time to do so, and even when they break in they usually don't break in right. The shank is hard and the vamp juts out of the shoe after wearing them for long. I found if you take the nail out of the shank they'll break in easier though. The large platform is helpful for blance though and the hard vamp is supportive.
